AIR has opportunities for research professionals with Ph.D. and Master’s degrees who have a strong interest in policy-focused work and applied-research experience in one or more of these areas:
 education (ECE, K-12, secondary, postsecondary),
 workforce development, employment and training,
 health policy/health services research
 family/child policy,
 housing and community/economic development,
 national/homeland security,
 population/migration issues,
 poverty/income policy,
 science/technology,
 natural resources/energy/environmental policy,
 and/or a primary focus on applied research methods.

The positions may be based in our Washington DC, Chicago, IL, Waltham, MA, San Mateo, CA or Austin, TX office.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:
• Developing conceptual frameworks that guide project work. Collaborating with quantitative and qualitative researchers, as well as practice-oriented colleagues, to define relevant research questions and to design and develop methods for addressing them.
• Managing the appropriate techniques to collect, analyze and report qualitative or quantitative data.
• Disseminating findings through publication of papers, progress and technical reports and presentation of seminars.
• Reviewing, analyzing, and synthesizing information using appropriate practices and techniques and/or ensuring all projects are conducted with sound practices and techniques.
• Managing or leading research projects or tasks and supervising staff on projects.
• Assuming lead role in managing proposal efforts and identifying new business opportunities
• Managing client satisfaction
• Mentoring researchers, sharing their approaches to solving concrete problems, and providing feedback on the work of others
• Contributing ideas, strategic planning, and information to support practice area efforts.
• Responsible for budget management, project deliverables, and client relations.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in a related field with relevant work experience managing and/or conducting research or related work.
• Knowledge of methodology used to collect, analyze, and report quantitative and qualitative data.
• Demonstrated proficiencies in writing, conceptualizing, analyzing, and consulting.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to produce concise, high-level summaries and briefings.
• Ability to translate research methods and findings for non-technical audiences.
• STATA, R, or other statistical software preferred.
• Experience working with stakeholders.
For more senior positions:
• Track record of success in leading proposals and procuring new work.
• Experience overseeing detailed projects or project management experience.
• Experience and familiarity of professional publications required.
