AIR’s Research and Evaluation area is seeking a Senior Researcher to join our team in Washington, DC. The senior researcher would contribute to the development of statistics about education that inform the discussion, debate and planning of decision-makers at national, state, and local levels through a contract with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Our work includes the review of data, documentation, and technical and statistical reports produced using data collected as part of the postsecondary longitudinal studies program within NCES.


The candidate will have experience in direct-client relations and lead our postsecondary longitudinal studies program. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, review of advanced statistical analyses, familiarity with research methods, development of direct assessment and survey instruments, review of programmed survey instruments, data file quality assurance review, review of technical and statistical reports, and monitoring and providing review of other team members’ work. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to business development by developing and implementing strategies for the pursuit of new work.


• Ph.D. in statistics, economics, educational policy, or other related social sciences field
• Three years of post-doctoral experience in the private or non-profit sector
• Subject matter expertise in postsecondary education research
• Familiarity with advanced statistical techniques (e.g., linear regression, logistic regression, multinomial logistic regression, factor analysis, event history analysis, hierarchical linear modeling)
• Experience with statistical software packages such as R, Stata, or SAS/WPS
• Expertise in working with and analyzing results from longitudinal survey data
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to maintain a professional and effective working relationship with project staff and clients
• Ability to work under conditions requiring careful attention to detail
