AIR’s Research and Evaluation area is seeking a Researcher to join our team in Washington, DC. The researcher would contribute to the development of statistics about education that inform the discussion, debate and planning of decision-makers at national, state, and local levels through a contract with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Our work includes the review of data, documentation, and technical and statistical reports produced using data collected as part of the postsecondary longitudinal studies program within NCES.


The candidate will have experience in postsecondary education research and will join our postsecondary longitudinal studies team. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, review of advanced statistical analyses, development of direct assessment and survey instruments, review of programmed survey instruments, data file quality assurance review, and publication content review.


• Ph.D. in statistics, economics, educational policy, or other related social sciences field
• Subject matter expertise in postsecondary education research
• Experience working with longitudinal or federally collected data
• Familiarity with advanced statistical techniques (e.g., linear regression, logistic regression, multinomial logistic regression, factor analysis, event history analysis, hierarchical linear modeling)
• Proficiency with statistical software packages such as R, Stata, or SAS/WPS
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to maintain a professional and effective working relationship with project staff and clients
• Ability to work under conditions requiring careful attention to detail
