The Assessment Program at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a well- regarded organization that is growing rapidly. We focus on providing our clients with customized assessments that not only measure student achievement against state standards, but also provide meaningful score reports that can help students, parents, and educators address any areas of student weakness. Our environment is fast-paced and requires people at all levels who are willing to roll up their sleeves to get the work done on time while maintaining high quality.

We are currently seeking Test Development Interns for our Alternate Assessments, English Language Arts (ELA), Math and Social Studies teams to provide assistance on test development projects in our Washington, DC office for the summer. The ideal candidate will start in May and work fulltime through mid-August.


Test Development Interns will participate in team activities including group reviews, QC processes, and supporting project work. Responsibilities include meeting preparation, participating in item reviews, providing subject area content knowledge, and other administrative tasks as requested. Additional duties may include editing reports, revising presentations, and updating databases.


Opportunities are available for students seeking their Bachelors or Master’s degree with a concentration in Math, English, Education, Special Education, History, Geography, Political Science or other related fields. All candidates must have an outstanding academic record, excellent writing skills, and the ability to learn new computer systems quickly. Programming experience is a plus.
