AIR is currently seeking an experienced professional development specialist with a focus on Adult Education and Literacy for our Adult Learning Practice Area. The position will be based out of our Sacramento, Ca office. The focus of the Adult Learning Practice Area is on improving services and instruction to adult learners by: conducting research and providing technical assistance (TA) and professional development (PD) to states and local providers, strengthening accountability and use of data for program improvement, improving the use of technology in instruction, and to promote innovative models and research-based practices in instruction. The available position will include work on California and Nevada-based professional development projects as well as work on AIR’s federal adult education technical assistance projects and other state work. The position requires: independent PD and TA materials development and delivery, management of workflow and delegation to other staff, engagement with adult education professionals and clients, independent investigation and research related to PD and TA materials development, and new business development.


Selected candidate will support AIR's adult education and literacy work by improving adult literacy program quality and teacher effectiveness.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and deliver professional development activities to state and local adult education staff
- Create original writing (i.e. whitepapers, research briefs, reports)
-Applying current research and practice to develop reports and project products
-Leading new business development activities, such as pursuing and leading proposal writing


Candidates must have at least a Master's degree in a social science field (PhD preferred). At least 5 years’ experience in adult literacy professional development, research, administration or teaching is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in new business development. Demonstrated experience in managing professional teams or work products. The selected candidate should also have experience and/or knowledge of adult learning research, and experience designing and providing professional development to adult educators, including through the use of technology and social networking tools. Ability to work in a team setting. Excellent writing and presentation skills are required.
