Overview

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is one of the leading behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. AIR is a collaborative organization that works with clients to examine a wide range of projects from early childhood development to adult education. We pride ourselves in conducting high-impact, high-stakes projects for significant federal, state, and private organizations. AIR's vision is that research-based problem solving can improve the lives of all people. AIR’s Research and Evaluation area is seeking an Editor to join our team.

Responsibilities

The editor will work on the Annual Reports (AR) Project, which provides the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) with support—including management, analysis, writing, and QC—for a variety of annual and periodic reports, as well as other publications and activities. Key annual reports include The Condition of Education (http://www.nces.ed.gov/programs/coe/), the Digest of Education Statistics (http://www.nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/), and Indicators of School Crime and Safety (http://www.nces.ed.gov/programs/crimeindicators/).

Our team is looking for an editor to review statistical materials (including text, tables, and graphics), correcting data discrepancies, grammatical errors, unclear language, and deviations from style. Tasks involving tables may range from proofreading data against statistical output to making suggestions about structure or wording. Tasks involving text may range from proofreading desktopped copy for accurate incorporation of reviewer revisions to making suggestions about organization of early drafts. Will help as needed with preparing various deliverables and with keeping the publication-tracking database up to date. Will also serve as a staff resource on editorial matters. May be asked to assist with publications management.
