Overview

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) Health Services Practice Area specializes in research, evaluation, and technical assistance in the areas of patient and consumer engagement, evaluation, quality and performance measurement, delivery systems improvement, financing and cost of care, and behavioral health (i.e., substance abuse and mental health).. Major clients include the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), private foundations, and state governments. We are seeking a full-time Project Specialist in in one of our main offices: Washington, DC, Rockville, MD, Chapel Hill, NC, or San Mateo, CA to assist in a wide array of health policy research projects and topics.

Responsibilities

• Management of large scale projects with multiple timelines, budgets, program inputs, and research outputs across all programs;
• Participation in health services research including data collection, analysis, report generation and information dissemination;
• Coordination of proposals, including ensuring all deadlines are met and all sections of the proposal are complete;
• Serve as a dedicated resource for project management; and
• Monitor, coordinate and provide work direction on a daily basis to admin staff, specialists and/or other staff or consultants/subcontractors.

Qualifications

• BA or Masters with coursework in business, project management, or program administration; preferred PMP or Lean Six Sigma certification;
• 2-4 years of experience working in the administration of work plans, task orders and budgets in a government contracting environment;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required along with ability to work efficiently with subcontractors and the client;
• Extensive experience in interpretation of financial data for project planning, management and coordination;
• Ability to handle multiple assignments and consistently meet deadlines. Strong planning and organizational skills required;
• Ability to think logically, anticipate “next steps” and contingencies, recognize errors, inconsistencies and discrepancies;
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
• Acute attention to detail and strong work ethic; and
• Prior experience with or great interest/commitment to Health Policy and Health Services Research preferred
