  • Overview

    AIR is seeking a Senior Director of Business Strategy and Partnerships -NYC Region. This role’s primary focus is leveraging connections to build AIR’s presence and portfolio of work within and across education, labor and workforce, health and human services, and youth development in the New York City region.

    The successful candidate is a systems thinker and team builder with deep experience and personal connections in the NYC metro region, and a history of successful business development in a professional services setting. Excellent communications, client management and staff mentoring skills are required, as well as the ability to make strong connections between research, evaluation, public policy and practice in development of projects and teams.

    The role also includes managing the NYC office by facilitating site communications, advocating for site needs and concerns, leading the coordination and integration of NYC staff with AIR’s broader Professional Services Division, and working closely with other AIR Directors on areas of common interests and needs.

    The position is located in our New York City office.

    Responsibilities

    •Business Development, including developing new and building current relationships in NYC with potential clients and funders
    o Works with NYC-based and other AIR staff to develop and execute a business plan for growing and expanding AIR’s work in NYC.
    o Leads the identification and pursuit of opportunities and the establishment of partnerships with external organizations
    o Supports workforce planning and recruitment, staff management, professional development, and Diversity and Inclusion activities, particularly as they relate to the NYC office

    •Communication and Coordination
    o Shares knowledge and information about and relevant to NYC work and business development across Service and Practice Areas
    o Facilitates enhanced integration of NYC-based staff with projects and project teams throughout AIR’s Professional Services Division
    o Coordinates the planning and execution of NYC-based and other work across Service Areas
    o Supports the achievement of sold time goals and the achievement of revenue, profitability, recruiting, staff engagement, client satisfaction, and diversity and inclusion goals for Professional Services overall
    o Serves as Quality Assurance, technical, and budget reviewer on major deliverables and proposals
    o Serves as technical and/or content expert in one or more areas and helps to facilitate communities of practice around key topics

    Qualifications

    •An advanced degree is preferred, with a minimum of 10 years of work experience and at least 3 years of experience conducting business development. Credibility required in one or more of AIR’s key practice areas – e.g., education, labor and workforce, health services, and youth development.
    •Experience and success in leading business development and projects in NYC in a core AIR practice area. A detailed list of areas can be found here: http://www.air.org/expertise
    •Extensive network of and productive relationships with NYC funders and potential partners in one or more of AIR’s key practice areas
    •Significant professional services industry knowledge, with experience in business development in Federal and State municipal government contracting, and experience forging public private partnerships
    •Demonstrated ability to identify and create partnerships with external partners, clients, and stakeholders
    •Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, the ability to listen and understand concerns, and the ability to communicate clearly with a variety of audiences, both internal and external
    •Demonstrated ability to influence client plans and guide business development activities
    •High emotional intelligence to lead and collaborate in a matrix organization
    •Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with and lead mission-driven teams with both internal (staff) members and external (subcontractor and consultant) members
    •Ability to demonstrate commitment to both the organization’s mission and financial viability – demonstrated capabilities in working with diverse leaders and personalities
    •Flexibility, ability to manage change, and adapt to changing circumstances and needs
    •Excellent planning skills, analytic and process orientation, and a disciplined approach to managing projects
    •Experience managing a diverse client portfolio and the ability to direct research and technical assistance projects
