    American Institutes for Research (AIR) is currently seeking a Finance Assistant to join our Corporate Finance Office in Washington, D.C.     The Finance Assistant position resides in the Program Finance Unit and reports to the Finance Director for one of the Program areas. With day-to-day supervision, the Finance Assistant provides financial and administrative support for basic to moderately complex projects including support for pricing, subcontractor monitoring, vendor payment, invoicing, cash collection, project and indirect cost control, budgeting and financial reporting activities.


    • Assists with the management of vendor, consultant and subcontractor performance by maintaining and utilizing available tools/systems to initiate and track performance, to forecast and accrue costs, and to issue payment when work is complete.
    • Assists with financial set-up and close-out of projects.
    • Prepares project and Program financial reports and performs basic financial analysis.
    • Reviews monthly financial reports and project financial records for inconsistencies and to ensure all expenses are properly charged. Initiates transfers for mischarged costs.
    • Prepares and submits invoices for assigned projects and manages resulting accounts receivable.
    • Enters information into the financial tracking system by working with Project Managers and Finance Analysts to ensure that labor and non-labor budgets, actual costs and forecasts are accurate.
    • Provides budget support to proposal teams.
    • Other administrative and basic financial duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or a related field is required.
    • Fine attention to detail, the ability to deal with confidential information, experience with large complicated budgets, and working level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
    • Flexibility and ability to consistently meet deadlines is required.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required.
    • Good written and oral communication, organizational, and analytical skills are required.
