    This position will support teams in AIR's Education Systems and Secondary Education and College and Career Readiness Practice areas in work related to improving systems of secondary and postsecondary education and learners transitions between secondary education, postsecondary education, and the workforce. Although the focus of this work is primarily research, candidates should have an interest in research-practice partnerships or other ways in which research can be directly translated practice.

    • Leading small teams in the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data related to secondary and/or postsecondary education
    • Conducting interviews and focus groups with educators, learners, and institutional leaders
    • Contribute to short-form and long-form reports, executive briefings, and field-facing and client-facing products
    • Participate in business development activities in the Education Systems and/or Secondary Education and College and Career Readiness Practice Areas.
    • Lead the design and planning of qualitative and/or quantitative data collection instruments including interview protocols, focus group protocols, and surveys
    • Manage the coding and data analysis from surveys, interviews, observations, and extant data using the appropriate analysis tools
    • Write reports, including briefs, charts, and graphs that describe and interpret findings of analyses for clients
    • Clearly communicate with clients and represent AIR in a professional manner
    • Communicate effectively, orally or in writing, with clients, site-based staff, and other stakeholders
    • Assisting with the design of research plans, and the development and drafting of new business proposals
    • Provide assistance to clients for analytical or statistical expertise
    • Mentoring junior research analysts, sharing approaches to solving concrete problems, and providing feedback on the work of others


    • Ph.D. with 5-7 years of relevant work experience in economics, the social sciences or related field.
    • Knowledge of methodology used to collect, analyze, and report quantitative and qualitative data.
    • Demonstrated proficiencies in writing, conceptualizing, analyzing, and consulting.
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to produce concise, high-level summaries and briefings.
    • Experience managing detailed projects and small teams preferred.
    • Experience with SPSS/SAS or other statistical software preferred.
    • Availability to travel locally and nationally
