AIR's Center for English Language Learners (ELLs) is committed to reducing the achievement gap and improving outcomes for English language learners by conducting rigorous research and connecting research to policy and practice. The Center for ELLs project work includes: • Research related to improving instruction and learning: AIR researchers conduct rigorous studies of instructional interventions in order to determine what works best for ELLs. • Evaluation research: AIR experts evaluate federal, state, and district practices and policies affecting ELLs and craft evidence-based recommendations for policymakers. • ELL specialists at AIR provide valuable technical assistance and professional development to help states and districts improve instruction and learning for ELLs. We tailor our services to meet the specific needs of our clients. • The policy work of the Center for ELLs currently focuses on analysis of state and federal policies and assistance to federal and state policymakers on issues relevant to ELLs.
The Center for ELLs is seeking a Senior Technical Assistance Consultant to provide assistance with curriculum development and technical assistance with a specific emphasis on ELLs.
The Senior Technical Assistant Consultant will provide overall project management and leadership on projects related to ELLs: • Help plan for and manage the development and growth of the Center for ELLs practice work through business development, client relationship and capacity building activities • Provide technical expertise to clients, AIR staff, partners and policy makers related to ELL education • Participate in professional and staff development activities for state, district, and school staff on ELL-related topics • Take a lead role in developing innovative curriculum across the content areas to support ELLs • Effectively manage projects, resources and staff • Provide guidance and mentoring in order to continue to build the ELL team’s capacity
• PhD or Masters in Education or related fields with some focus on the development of content area knowledge in ELLs and educational policies and practices focused on ELLs • At least 3 years of experience overseeing ELL-related work at the district level • At least 3 years of experience teaching ELLs at the K-12 level • Demonstrated expertise in K-12 curriculum and instruction for ELLs • Demonstrated expertise in training district-level administrators, coaches, and teachers to support ELLs academic development • Demonstrated ability to write research articles, proposals, and technical documents • Demonstrated management, client relationship, organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and grow staff • Excellent training, writing, oral and interpersonal skills
This position can be located in AIR's Washington, D.C., Chicago, Illinois, Waltham, Massachusetts, San Mateo, California or Austin, Texas office.
