The Assessment Program at AIR is a well-regarded organization that is growing rapidly. We focus on providing our clients with customized assessments that not only measure student achievement against state standards, but also provide meaningful score reports that can help students, parents, and educators address any areas of student weakness. Our environment is fast-paced and we seek individuals who are willing to roll up their sleeves to produce high quality work in a timely manner. We are currently seeking an Assessment Editorial Assistant to join our team in Washington, D.C.
The Assessment Editorial Assistant will work with other editors, operations and production staff, and various internal clients to proofread and perform quality-control checks on education testing materials. Reviews to verify test-booklet content and layout are conducted in electronic and hardcopy formats. Assessment Editorial Assistants must be able to apply Chicago, AP, and APA styles as necessary and follow various state department of education publishing requirements and client-specific style rules. Experience in PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF markup using Adobe Acrobat is a plus.
• Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism, or a related field • Minimum of 1 – 2 years of proofreading or quality-control experience in a professional environment • Exceptional command of the English language, with strong listening, writing, and oral communication skills • Superb attention to detail and organizational skills • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and proofing requests under high-pressure daily deadlines • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment • Positive attitude and a strong customer-service focus • Basic familiarity with standard proofreading symbols • Thorough proficiency in Word and experience using the track changes function
