Established in 1946, with headquarters in Crystal City, VA, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts behavioral and social science research on important social issues and delivers technical assistance and capacity building services domestically and internationally in health, social development, education, and workforce to a growing roster of clients and partners.


AIR’s Human Services Division is currently seeking a Psychology Editor to join our team in the Washington DC/metro area offices.


The Psychology Editor will write, review, and edit college-level Psychology test passages and items and provide content expertise to support the building of test forms for a nationally administered, high-stakes exam. The editor will work with a cadre of external consultants to develop passages and items from authoring to operational usage and is responsible for ensuring the items are technically accurate, stylistically appropriate, and aligned to test specifications, as well as respond to challenges to test content.


  • Requires PhD in Psychology, Neuropsychology, Clinical Psychology or a related field
  • Teaching experience of undergraduate level Psychology including Introduction to Psychology
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Test development experience is preferred.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.


Candidates hired for the position might initially start working remotely but will ultimately have the option to work from one of our offices located in Virginia or Maryland.
