Overview

Established in 1946, with headquarters in Crystal City, VA, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts behavioral and social science research on important social issues and delivers technical assistance and capacity building services domestically and internationally in health, social development, education, and workforce to a growing roster of clients and partners.

We are seeking a Project Specialist to join AIR’s Education Statistics program area.

Responsibilities

The Project Specialist will be responsible for assessing, planning, and executing tasks at the direction of the Program Director or Task Leader. This position will support the management and monitoring of product development, resource allocation, and schedule of deliverables for a portfolio of projects. Other responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Project Director or Task Leaders to execute changes and/or updates to the project tasks.
  • Develop and maintain standard templates, processes, and workflows, all elements of which shall be consistent with AIR’s best practices and contract requirements.
  • Provide support in project planning and implementation by managing, monitoring, and tracking project tasks using standard processes and workflows.
  • Delegate work to staff and ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Provide administrative support related to the overall project management.
  • Analyze project management related data and synthesize those data into reports and spreadsheets based on program needs or program deliverables.
  • Track program benchmarks and make recommendations for change.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in project management, data analysis, and staffing processes
  • Organized with a proven ability to track and complete deadline-driven projects
  • Outstanding communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal skills, and the ability to build value-added relationships with individuals at all levels both internally and with clients, while providing superior customer service
  • Positive contributor and a strong commitment to quality
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask
  • Excellent judgment, with strong detail-oriented skills
  • Ability to work in an environment that changes rapidly to fit client needs
  • Looking for a detail oriented, persistent, and organized team player
  • Strong computer skills (high-level skill with Microsoft Office products and project management tools), and can learn and apply new technology tools.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.
