Overview

AIR is seeking a full-time Python Programmer (Data Analyst II) with data management skills and strong statistical software package programming skills to join our Health team. The selected candidate will collaborate in research, technical assistance, and operations projects funded by Federal Agencies (such as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among others). The selected candidate will contribute to the analysis of healthcare data and provide support to the project director and/or senior team members on various tasks including querying large datasets including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer claims data, cleaning and imputing data, creating analytic datafiles according to technical specifications, documenting procedures, conducting quality assurance processes, and performing analyses under the direction of senior members of the team.

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations. This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Query large databases including Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payer claims data.
  • Construct and document analytic datafiles.
  • Create customized and presentation-quality reports from data analysis results.
  • Apply quantitative methods and techniques to manage and analyze research data.
  • Participate in the design of research studies.
  • Manage administrative aspects of projects.
  • Support the preparation of technical procedures and reports.
  • Write, compile, and edit assigned portions of proposals and project reports.
  • Review work products to ensure quality and consistency of content. 

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years quantitative research experience in health policy or a related field; OR master’s degree with 4 years of experience.
  • Advanced python programming required
  • Experience with statistical packages like SAS and STATA is a plus but not required
  • Experience processing and analyzing Medicare, Medicaid, or other commercial claims data.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and data management techniques.
  • Proposal and report preparation experience is a plus but not required.
  • Machine learning experience is a plus but not required.

  • Good communication skills with the ability effectively collaborate in a virtual work environment.

  • Ability to learn quickly, take direction, and work independently.
  • Ability to take collaborative and consultative approaches to resolve issues.
  • Creative, professional, and able to take initiative.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $95,000 - $120,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
