Overview

AIR is currently seeking a Project Specialist to join the Health division. We work to advance equitable, high-quality, affordable, patient-centered care through rigorous research, evaluation, and technical assistance that focus on what matters most to patients, families, clinicians, and the broader healthcare community.

 

The project specialist will be responsible for the project management of medium to large projects under the guidance of project directors. This position will oversee development and monitoring of work plans, contracts, and budgets. They will support risk and quality management.

 

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations. This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities

Looking for a detail oriented, persistent, and organized team player. The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Work with the Project Director or Task Leaders to create and monitor project work plans for Federal contractors, which includes agencies such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) among others.
  • Develop budgets for medium to large projects with various levels of complexity; track and monitor spending and identify issues that cause overruns; identify strategies to mitigate risk and impact of cost overruns.
  • Manage contract and budget modifications with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Provide support in project planning and implementation by managing, monitoring, and tracking project tasks using standard processes and workflows.  
  • Establish quality and performance standards, review work products to ensure quality and consistency of content.
  • Analyze project-management-related data and synthesize those data into reports and spreadsheets based on program needs or program deliverables; track program benchmarks and make recommendations for change. 
  • Maintain relationships and work collaboratively with internal project staff, division leaders and external clients and contractors. This includes serving as a point of contact on project status; facilitating internal team meetings on project status, accountabilities, forecasting and budgeting; and facilitating external meetings and other communications with vendors, project contractors, and clients on performance, schedule, and budget.
  • Coach and give feedback to support staff on day-to-day management activities and timely follow-through on tasks.
  • Support division business development activities by creating proposal budgets, budget narratives, and coordinating activities for proposal and grants. 

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health administration, business management or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in program or project management, or master’s degree in health administration, business management or project management with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in project management, data analysis, and grant funding reporting.
  • Experience working in a grant or contract-funded environment is desirable but not required.

 Skills:

  • Outstanding communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to build value-added relationships with individuals at all levels both internally and with clients, while providing superior customer service.

  • Excellent judgment, with strong detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment that changes rapidly to fit client needs. 
  • Strong computer skills are essential (high-level skill with Microsoft Office products and project management tools, like Airtable and SharePoint), with ability and willingness to learn and apply new technology tools.

  • Can collaborate effectively in a virtual/dispersed work environment.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $95,000 - $110,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
