Overview

AIR is currently seeking a Production Design Specialist (Senior Desktop Publisher), to join our AIR Studio. This position reports to the Production Design Team Manager. AIR Studio is AIR’s in-house agency for editing, production design, graphic design, copyrights and permissions, Section 508 compliance, and publication management. It is composed of a Director of Operations, an Editing Manager, a Production Design Manager, a Creative Services Manager, and staff including copy editors, substantive editors, production designers, an art director, graphic artists, and Section 508 specialists. The type of material handled in AIR Studio varies and may include proposals, reports, presentations, research summaries, literature reviews, issue briefs, conference materials, training materials, marketing collateral, journal articles, specialty items, and Section 508 deliverables. Teamwork, communication, and process are key to the success of the AIR Studio production environment.

 

The Production Design Specialist (Senior Desktop Publisher) will support the production of quality publications and proposals and help ensure that AIR’s published materials are presented in a professional manner. Applicants are subject to pre-employment evaluation of the application of skills.

This position has the flexibility to work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities

Essential job functions include but are not limited to-

  • Prepare documents according to templates, quality control (QC) checklists, technical requirements, Section 508 guidelines, and client-specific instructions.
  • Layout/format complex documents and presentations using Microsoft (MS) Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 365). Specifically in Word, must be able to:
    • apply styles
    • design elements from a template
    • format for consistency
    • create new styles as needed
    • create and format tables and text boxes
    • clean up and insert graphics
    • work with section breaks and different headers and footers
    • apply color contrast principles
    • prep for Section 508 compliance
    • adhere to budgetary and timeline restrictions
    • apply slide masters in template and clean up formatting in PowerPoint
    • work with charts and graphs in Excel
  • Layout/format proposals and supporting documents.
  • Create business and proposal graphics in PowerPoint, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • A.A. or B.A. in graphic design, publishing, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a publication department, with experience working on government contracts.
  • Working knowledge of Section 508 compliance.

Skills:

  • Effective communicator with demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a virtual, cross-functional diverse team environment.
  • Must have advanced skills in Word and PowerPoint 365 on the PC and intermediate skills in MS Excel.
  • Advanced design and layout in MS Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently, and collaborate as a member of team, while prioritizing multiple objectives to consistently meet established timelines.
  • Adept in a fast-paced environment to manage multiple concurrent deliveries while effectively following instructions.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a focus on details and high quality.
  • Proven capability to actively seek and embrace constructive feedback, thoughtfully reflect on it and make necessary improvements.
  • Skilled in executing thorough self-quality control and delivering precise formatting.
  • PC proficiency.
  • Beginner to intermediate skills in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro) on PC.
  • Ability to deliver fully Section 508-compliant PDFs (including fillable forms), PowerPoint, Word, and Excel files.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $79,000 to $84,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
